About McFarlane Chambers

Hamish Hancock (BA, LLM Hons) established McFarlane Chambers in 2013 as the base for his barristerial litigation practice.

His aim is to provide a personal service as a highly experienced senior litigator and dispute resolver to those involved in substantial legal disputes. 

During his career in private practice (partner in a national law firm) and public law (senior Crown Counsel), Hamish has handled litigation at the highest levels in:

  • tort
  • commercial
  • medical-legal
  • public law and judicial review
  • taxation and customs
  • overseas investment
  • local authority (defective building) liability
  • insurance
  • land valuation and public works

Hamish can also represent clients in the legislative process through his experience acquired as:

  • An MP (member and chairman of various parliamentary select committees)
  • Member of New Zealand Law Society legislation committee (preparing and presenting submissions on legislation to select committees)
